Useful Programs

Where there are no suitable Windows commands to perform a task there are many 3rd party programs which can do the job :-)

Windows commands and other programs are often very useful in batch files, VBSCRIPT and HTML applications as well as many other scripting languages.

• Microsoft Tools:
  • ScriptoMatic (WMI test tool)
  • SNMPUTIL.exe (command line SNMP tool)
  • SysInternals' Tools
    • AccessChk.exe - Reports effective permissions for securable objects
    • Handle.exe - Displays information about open handles

  • Windows Commands ("built in")
• Some of my tools (written by me - Dennis Bareis):
  • CTEXT.exe (colored console output)
  • FILTER$.EXE (toolbox)
  • LOG.EXE (echo output without ending the line etc)
  • RegularExpTestMm.hta (regular expression test tool)
  • VBS4CMD.VBS (used to imbed VBSCRIPT into a batch file)
• NirSoft's Tools:
  • NirCmd.exe (general toolbox or all sorts of things)

• Net-SNMP (Collection of Open Source SNMP Tools (including SnmpSet.exe)
• TEE.exe (input goes to stdout as well as a file)
