Bugtoaster - Do Something about Computer Crashes |
http://www.bugtoaster. com/ |
11 June 2001 6:08:57pm
Bugtoaster is a free (I think) desktop front-end for an Internet-based service that helps you straighten out problems with your computer. Bugtoaster runs from your system tray, waiting until something goes wrong. When your operating system or an application crashes, Bugtoaster catches the details and forwards the information to the online Bugtoaster database. The crashes are then correlated and forwarded to the appropriate software vendors. You can check the databases for details or fixes, and choose to receive e-mail reports about all crashes or just the ones you've reported. Sounds like an excellent idea. Hopefully like me you are dismayed at the extrememely poor quality of Microsoft's products and in fact Windows products in general. This sort of tool has the potential to force these vendors to care about their bugs, that is fix them! The online bug database should also be useful in developing work arounds to problems you might be experiencing. |

Developer Playground started out as an idea for an application to trace any program's runtime behavior. Jonas had previously built "ComTrace", but felt it was time to conquer non-COM apps as well. So, we started thinking, and this is what we came up with. A developer's playground, with the following functionality:

Excellent Process Explorer. I use it as a task manager replacement. If you wanted something a bit simpler the "prcview" is a good choice.

Running PsSuspend with a process ID directs it to suspend or resume the process of that ID on the local computer. If you specify a process name PsSuspend will suspend or resume all processes that have that name.

Runs a process and waits for it to complete or optionally launches the process and exits. A report may be printed with the process times and other information. The process may be given a delayed start, a number of repetitions to recur, and a timeout. The process may be safely killed if it runs beyond a specified duration. A console process may be given its own window and the window parameters may be specified. The process' base priority may be specified. The process can be logged on to a specified user account. An extended length command line may be handed to the process and the standard streams may be redirected internally.

| Thread Master |

ThreadMaster is a background service implementing a CPU Quota mechanism on top of the standard thread scheduling algorithms of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Operating Systems. ThreadMaster monitors all running applications, and detects when a application starts to use excessive processor resources. It dynamically hunt down the offending thread, and clamp the CPU for this thread. This feature ensures that other users can remain working without noticing anything. The clamped process will eventually finish, and the clamp will be removed automatically.

A complete listing of all URLS is available if you are having trouble locating a URL.
If you have some completely free software (no adware and without timeouts or major restrictions) which you would like listed then please email me:
This page was automatically created from Windows internet shortcuts (or favorites) created with IE or Netscape (OS/2 WPS URLs can also be imported). You can comment any link or category and just about anything can be changed (links don't even need to be in tables). PPWIZARD, a free tool for Windows, Mac OS X, Unix or OS/2 built these pages using this source code .
All URLs are checked periodically using the my free URL validation tool (for Windows and OS/2). This ensures that very few if any links point to moved pages or return 404 errors etc.
