Note that I do not provide any links into Microsoft's site due to their gross stupidity. They very frequently break virtually every link in existance.

ChimpInstall is an application to create and edit Microsoft Installer (msi) files. The main project goal is to provide developers with an Open Source tool that can be used instead of the expensive commercial tools that are available. The project is currently working towards the first usable version, which will take MSI files created by the installer for Visual Studio and allow upgrades to be created for these files. This means that all of the tables in the database which are relevant to the task need to be imported, exported, loaded and saved. After this goal has been met the ability to create install files from scratch will be added and the GUI extended to allow the information contained in the installer to be modified.

Welcome to the homepage of Install Assistant (IA). IA acts as a "wrapper" for your installation; it handles the updating of any system files your installation may require, and allows you to build a customized "splash" screen you can display before running setup. It is written in C, and can be run on any Win32 version - Windows 95, 98, Me, NT4, 2000, and XP. IA (used to be named "VB Setup Wrapper") is postcard-ware.

Reggie will help you with all of your COM module registration needs... Unlike RegSvr32 and RegTLib, it does not totally suck -- it gives you actual, developer-friendly error messages when things go wrong, and it even returns failed error codes back to the shell, for use in your own installation kits and batch files. Reggie is free software, you're free to modify it and redistribute it however you like. Full source code is included. And at only 12kb, it's painless to ship! Reggie supports the following file types:

The goal of this document is to collect instructions for performing unattended/silent installations of many popular Windows applications. Such instructions are useful for automating these installations. Here, we are interested not only in performing unattended installations, but also in waiting for those installations to finish and suppressing any reboot they might want to perform. This is necessary for reliably installing multiple applications. |

The cmdasuser command line tool allows you to launch an interactive command shell running as a specific security principal. Any programs you launch from this command shell will inherit the identity of the command shell's security principal, so you can use this shell to run arbitrary applications under alternate crednetials, without having to log out and log back in. A special case allows you to run a command shell under the "LocalSystem" account. This is useful for testing MSI installs etc (specify ALLUSERS=1). |
A complete listing of all URLS is available if you are having trouble locating a URL.
If you have some completely free software (no adware and without timeouts or major restrictions) which you would like listed then please email me:
This page was automatically created from Windows internet shortcuts (or favorites) created with IE or Netscape (OS/2 WPS URLs can also be imported). You can comment any link or category and just about anything can be changed (links don't even need to be in tables). PPWIZARD, a free tool for Windows, Mac OS X, Unix or OS/2 built these pages using this source code .
All URLs are checked periodically using the my free URL validation tool (for Windows and OS/2). This ensures that very few if any links point to moved pages or return 404 errors etc.
