Building or Updating MSIs

The build process can be invoked in these main ways:

  1. From Windows Explorer, using right mouse click (context menu) options on ".MM" files.

  2. From the command line via the MM batch files.

  3. A silent (unattended) install (from ANT/NMAKE scripts or batch files in automated build processes).

MAKEMSI pretty much treats all ".MM" scripts the same so whether you are building or updating an MSI or building a merge module or MSI validation suite, the basic process is the same.

Note that ultimately MAKEMSI uses "PPWIZARD" to invoked to build or update all Windows Installer databases.
