Microsoft HTML Help is the standard help system for the Windows platform. From what I can gather there is a Java viewer so help should be viewable on any platform.

HTML Help offers some distinct advantages over standard HTML, such as the ability to implement a combined table of contents and index and the use of keywords for advanced hyperlinking capability. The free HTML Help compiler (part of the HTML Help Workshop) makes it possible to compress HTML, graphic, and other files into a relatively small compiled help (.chm) file, which can then be distributed with a software application, or downloaded from the Web.

2xExplorer is a lightweight yet powerful, fully shell integrated dual-pane explorer replacement, focusing on usability for increased productivity and minimum frustration for everyday file management tasks. The latest version of 2xExplorer introduces seamless handling of ZIP archive files for Windows XP (and ME/2000) users. They are opened as regular folders and the majority of file management commands are supported, including synchronization. Other non-XP users will benefit from a few new commands (e.g. file shreding & touching) and patches.

This program adds a file cutting menu to all right click (context) menus under explorer. It can also create a batch file to unsplit the file however this is basic and slow as the same batch file covers DOS versions of Windows (95/98/Me). The menu could be plainer with options about filenames of splits etc, but it does the job.

KeyTools is a free set of utilities for managing the HTML Help and WinHelp systems on your computer, and for optimizing those help systems for better performance. The primary focus of the KeyTools utilities is HTML Help, the Microsoft development environment for developing HTML-based help and multimedia titles. Since many people who develop HTML Help systems also develop WinHelp systems, KeyTools also includes a few tools for WinHelp development.

Examples of what are available are CHM decompiler which also creates the project files and a compiler.

There are other html help related utitilies on this site.

A port of the pilot link software. I mainly use the backup and restore function as I feel it gives me an added level of safety.

It is command line driven but does not create any icons (no install script). Has a crappy front end which I intend to replace while learning a bit of VB.

FreeDOS aims to be a complete, free, 100% MS-DOS compatible operating system. FreeDOS is ideal for anyone who wants to bundle a version of DOS without having to pay a royalty for use of DOS. FreeDOS will also work on old hardware, in DOS emulators, and in embedded systems. FreeDOS is free because it is released under the GNU General Public License (you have access to the source code for all FreeDOS programs).

A complete listing of all URLS is available if you are having trouble locating a URL.

About these Bookmarks

These bookmarks are of subjects or products I find useful (or think I may in the future). I never link to a site as a pre-condition for them linking to me! As I use Windows I am mainly interested in software for this operating system. Where good free software exists I generally only list the free software (I list some shareware and even some commercial software where it is exceptional).

If you have some completely free software (no adware and without timeouts or major restrictions) which you would like listed then please email me:

  1. The URL (direct to resource's page) - not to the download.
  2. A proposed category (existing one if possible)
  3. A short description
To bypass my SPAM filter the subject should begin "SUGGESTED LINK:".

Creating These Book Mark Pages

This page was automatically created from Windows internet shortcuts (or favorites) created with IE or Netscape (OS/2 WPS URLs can also be imported). You can comment any link or category and just about anything can be changed (links don't even need to be in tables). PPWIZARD, a free tool for Windows, Mac OS X, Unix or OS/2 built these pages using this source code .

All URLs are checked periodically using the my free URL validation tool (for Windows and OS/2). This ensures that very few if any links point to moved pages or return 404 errors etc.
